Winter Fun Day set for Sunday, February 18

Local residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a day of cross-country skiing and other winter activities at Quarry Road Trails in Waterville on Sunday, February 18.  This free community event is hosted by the City of Waterville with support from Friends of Quarry Road, Inland Hospital, Common Street Arts, Children’s Discovery Museum, Mathieu’s Cycle & Fitness, CeMeNEMBA, and Kennebec Messalonskee Trails; it is the third and final Community Ski Free Day scheduled for the 2017-2018 winter season.
The Welcome Center will be open from 10am until 4pm to provide free snowshoes to loan, ski equipment rentals, snacks, and information. Ski and snowshoe trails are open all day throughout the season with lighting on over a mile of trail for night skiing until 9pm. Quarry Road Trails’ state-of-the-art snowmaking system ensures that the ski trails are covered even in periods of low natural snowfall.
Quarry Road’s Winter Fun Day is the February feature event in Inland Hospital’s Let’s Go! Family Fun Series; program participants are encouraged to bring their passports and others can sign up between 10am and 1pm at the event for the free year-long program offering family-friendly events each month. Activities on Feb. 18 will include skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, winter biking, a winter StoryWalk, snowflake art, and more.
These free community events and the Quarry Road Trails are supported through ski pass sales, donations, collaboration with partnering organizations, and contributions from annual sponsors.  This year’s gold level sponsors are Central Maine Motors, Colby College, Consigli, Grondin Construction, Inland Hospital, MaineGeneral Health, Maine State Credit Union, and Morin Orthodontics with bronze level support provided by Marden’s and Sappi.

Quarry Road Trails is owned and operated by the City of Waterville, Department of Parks and Recreation, developed in partnership with Friends of Quarry Road. Located just minutes from downtown Waterville, the 200-plus acre property abuts Messalonskee Stream and features more than 10 miles of trails for hiking, biking, skiing, and snowshoeing.
Friends of Quarry Road is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
