No Sun for Baby – a sun-damage prevention program at Inland

A day in the sun can be fun, but without proper precautions it can also mean future health problems too – especially for babies. Studies by the American Cancer Society show a link between sunburns in children and an increased risk of skin cancer later in life.

In an effort to educate new parents about the adverse effects of the sun on their newborns, The Birthing Center at Inland Hospital and the Maine Skin Cancer Task Force are teaming up for a special campaign.

As part of the effort, new parents will receive a No Sun for Baby protection kit, consisting of a Parent’s Guide to Skin Protection from the American Cancer Society and a sun bonnet hand sewn by Inland volunteers.

Creating safe sun habits now can help protect your child from skin cancer later in their life.
